Those mums...
I have read alot of posts lately about 'those mums' you know the type... the buffet table birthday mums, the handmade costume mums, the cute homemade matching outfit mums. Many of the posts I read are about how you don't have to be one of those mums, competing and trying to upstage other parties/costumes/mums and these posts... sad to say... show these creative mummies in a bad light :(
There is nothing wrong with being a mum that likes and enjoys these things...
I am a crafty/designy mum and for me things like buffet tables, co-ordinating school book sets and cute toys make me smile... to be completely honest they get me more than just a little bit excited! Yes, I am the weird mum who get's excited about paper straw colours... I can't help it! So what! ;)
I don't do it to 'show off' my crafting skills and I certainly don't do it to compete with other parents despite what these aforementioned posts and articles would have you to believe... I do it as a labour of love, it is something I do for my children because I love the way their faces light up when they see those special little touches I made just for them! Call me crazy because I spend weeks buying little pieces here and there to make their parties just right or because it ends up costing a 'little' bit more than I originally budgeted in, but for me the memories of watching their faces as they enjoy those special things I do or create for them is priceless!
It isn't always about the big things... some times it's ALL about the small things... sometimes the moment when I snuggle up next to them and they tell me about their favourite part of the day is worth so much more to me than the handmade birthday cake or the baby blue paper straws could ever mean...
Tell us are you one of those mums too?
